To the Lake

A TV Show that came out in 2019 and was bought by Netflix a year after, in 2020. Not surprisingly, as it’s an extremely good Russian thriller that tells about a dangerous virus. By the way, Russian name of this TV Show is Эпидемия (Epidemic). An unknown virus turns Moscow into a deserted city, with no electricity, no food, and money that costs nothing. The non-infected habitants have to struggle for their survival. If you were looking for a Russian-style Walking Dead, give “To the Lake” a try.

The Method

If you are fond of crime dramas with an eccentric detective, The Method is a great choice for you. The main character is Rodion Meglin, a police investigator who is hunting the most terrible criminals. He has a young assistant Yesenia and although she has her motives to work with Meglin – she investigates her mother’s murder – it is a great struggle for her. The Method came out in 2015 and became extremely popular in Russia. Therefore, in 2020, the second season was shot, but it got much worse reviews than the first one.

Major Grom: Plague Doctor

The newest title in this article, and this time it is a movie. If you would like to watch a Russian movie based on comics, why not to try Major Grom? The action takes place in St. Petersburg, right where Educa School is situated. The police officer Major Grom (grom/гром means thunder in Russian), is fighting criminals in the city. But suddenly there appears a person wearing a mask of Plague Doctor who starts to kill criminals who avoided their punishment thanks to corrupted courts and policemen. Major Grom has to fight the villain who even became popular among the citizens.
