What do people all over the world have in common? Of course, it is the New Year’s Resolutions.
Among the most popular are such resolutions as «to quit smoking», «to lose weight», «to spend less money and save more» and «to learn a new language». The resolutions frequently stay just decisions, which are never brought to life. Why is it so hard to complete?
There are three main reasons for the failure. First, chosen goals can be imposed by the environment. It happens often when people make a decision according to society’s requirements, but not their personal wishes. Another thing is high expectations and inability to estimate the resources properly: people tend to be too optimistic about the amount of work that they are able to do in a limited time. Third reason is the underestimating additional factors. There always will be different reasons breaking your plans: you can get sick and postpone your morning run or learning language online.
In order to fulfill the plan, you need to follow a few rules:
• Set yourself realistic goals and do not indulge in empty dreams that are unlikely to come true;
• Write New Year’s resolutions on paper: it helps to see your wish clearer and work out a plan;
• The fewer promises, the better: it is easier to achieve one goal than several;
• Define the goal specifically: make a list of micro-goals and move systematically;
• Start making steps to fulfill your goal immediately, without stretching it for a whole year.
