Some useful methods of language learning

Sometimes language learning seems extremely tough – lots of unfamiliar words and complicated grammar can really drive you crazy. Here are some methods that will help you to make the learning process easier and more effective!

Intervals of repetition

This technique allows to memorize new words and phrases more effectively. You should repeat learned information with certain periods of time – and the further you go, the shorter these periods should be. For example, if you learn new words, you should repeat them throughout the lesson, and after that repeat them next day. Then, repeat them once again in several days and finally fix everything in one week.

Learn the language before going to bed

Mastering of the new language mostly demands simple memorizing of a big amount of information. For better learning don’t miss a chance to repeat everything before going to bed. According to American research, memorization at night time is more lasting than at the lesson, which takes place during the day.

Explore the content

A lot of teachers will tell you that abstract learning of a foreign language is harder than its applying for mastering some interesting material. It is very important to add some content in a target language to the learning process. For example, you can listen to podcasts, watch movies or tv-series, or read books. We are always busy and it is quite difficult sometimes to find time for lessons. That’s why a lot of people limit themselves with 2-3 hours a week, which are specifically picked for a foreign language.

However, it could be better to study less but every day. Our brain doesn’t have a very big buffer of operative memory. When we try to fill it with a big amount of information in one hour, it gets overflowed very fast. In this case, short but frequent lessons can be more useful. The greatest helpers to follow this mode are mobile apps, which will allow you to study and exercise at any available moment.

Mix old and new

When learning a new language, we try to move further and get as much knowledge as we can. But it is not quite correct. The progress appears when the old material is mixed with the new one. Thus, we don’t learn new material only, but master past lessons. As a result, the process of language learning goes much faster and effectively.
